SANS TACHE (2014)

A expressão francesa sans tache significa “sem marcas”, imaculado. A série trata da obsessão das pessoas em negar as próprias cicatrizes. Este ensaio mostra que a partir do momento em que nascemos já somos poluídos pela vida e que viver marca. Inspirado na luz sombria de Caravaggio e na arte barroca renascentista, as imagens transmitem a sensação de seres embalsamados, submersos ou mesmo levitando. Para mostrar que mesmo congelados no instante fotográfico o tempo também vai passar. As obras impressas sofreram diversos processos de envelhecimento, do fogo à “grilagem”. Os dejetos e movimentos frenéticos dos insetos agiram sobre os retratos, dando a aparência envelhecida e mostrando que por mais destruída que a obra esteja é possível sentir a beleza das marcas.

The French expression sans tache means unblemished, immaculate. The series deals with people’s obsession with denying their own scars. This photographic essay demonstrates that, from the moment we are born, we are already polluted by life and that living leaves marks. Inspired by Caravaggio’s gloomy lighting as well as Renaissance and Baroque art, the images convey the feeling of embalmed, submerged, or even levitating beings. The intention is to show that, even if they are frozen in the photographic moment, time will pass. The printed works underwent various aging processes, from burning to “grilagem” (“cricketing”) – a technique that creates an aged effect on paper by putting it inside a box of crickets. The insects’ excrements and frenzied movements gave the portraits an aged appearance, demonstrating that, no matter how destroyed the work is, it is possible to find beauty in blemishes.
